Comparison

Sonilo vs ElevenLabs

Music, sound effects and the API, compared for people putting audio on video: what each makes from a video, price, licence, rights after cancelling and limits.

ElevenLabs is a voice first audio platform that also makes music and sound effects; Sonilo is built around the video, generating music and sound effects from the edit itself. Both can now make music from a video, so the difference is in control, dialogue handling, sound effects and price.

The short answer

Pick ElevenLabs if voice is the core of the job (narration, text to speech, voice cloning, dubbing) or you want the lowest per minute API price for plain music. Pick Sonilo if you are putting music and sound effects on a finished video: it reads the cut, keeps or ducks the dialogue, takes directions per section, generates sound effects timed to the footage and can hand back the finished video. Sonilo has a free plan; commercial use starts on Pro at $14.99 a month.

The API, endpoint by endpoint

Both APIs now take a video. ElevenLabs' POST /v1/music/video-to-music accepts up to 10 uploaded clips (600 seconds and 200MB combined) with an optional description and style tags, and returns one audio file. Sonilo's POST /v1/video-to-music accepts a video file or a video URL, takes timestamped directions for each section, can keep or duck the dialogue, and a sibling endpoint returns the finished video with the music mixed in. Sonilo also generates sound effects from the same video, while ElevenLabs documents sound effects from a text prompt only.

ElevenLabs is the cheaper and roomier option for plain music: it lists music at $0.15 per minute and accepts longer uploads. Sonilo costs $0.009 per second ($0.54 per minute) for video to music and caps a video at 6 minutes, and it is the better fit when the soundtrack has to follow a real edit inside your product.

05

When Sonilo is the better pick

  • The video is cut and the music has to follow it, with the dialogue left clear.
  • You need sound effects placed on the frames where things happen, not effects you drag into place.
  • You want the finished video back, or directions for each section of the timeline.
  • You publish for clients or on many channels and want a license certificate for each track.
