Balance the body, then shape the opening and ending
Set the background music level while listening to the middle of the narration. Then choose fade-in and fade-out durations for the opening and ending. These are separate decisions: a smooth opening cannot compensate for music that is too prominent during the spoken content.

Does fading replace automatic ducking?+
No. Fades follow the start and end of the clip. Ducking follows speech activity; use the related automatic-balance page to compare that behaviour.
