Keep CapCut when
- You need a video editor for cuts, captions, and effects
- The video stays on TikTok and a library track fits
- You want templates and one-tap edits on your phone
Sonilo does not replace CapCut as an editor. It replaces the part where you scroll CapCut's music library for a track that almost fits. Upload the finished cut, describe what you want in one line, and Sonilo writes music to that video and adds sound effects for what happens on screen, like rain on a window or a door closing.

Short answer
CapCut is an all-in-one video editor with a music library, sound effects, and newer AI music and AI sound effects tools. The catch for creators who post beyond TikTok is the library license: CapCut's Commercial Sounds may be shown only in CapCut, TikTok, and TikTok for Business, and its regular Sounds are for personal, non-commercial use. Sonilo music is original and comes with one license per plan that does not depend on the platform.
Sonilo stays focused on the sound layer: music, sound effects, voiceover, and dubbing for a video you already cut. Bring the audio back into CapCut, or download the finished video with the sound mixed in.
With CapCut
Cut, caption, and export the video as you always do. Leave the music off, or keep a rough track only as a guide.
Upload the exported video. Sonilo reads its length, pacing, and scene changes, and keeps any dialogue in it.
Say what you want, like "calm and cinematic" or "rain on the window and a door closing". Generate again or change the line until it fits.
Download the audio and drop it on the CapCut timeline, or download the finished video with the sound mixed in and post it.

Licensing
The license is where it gets narrower. CapCut's Materials License Agreement splits the library into non-commercial Sounds and Commercial Sounds, and says Commercial Sounds may be shown only within CapCut, TikTok, and TikTok for Business. A creator who cross-posts the same video to YouTube, Instagram, or X, or makes it for a brand, needs a license that travels with the video.
Sonilo writes new music for your cut, so it is never muted on any platform. The model behind it is trained only on licensed catalogs.
Ads, branded content, client deliverables, monetized channels and indie games. Premium adds film, TV, broadcast and studio games. Paid plans need no attribution.
Every file generated on Pro or Premium can carry a license certificate with a verification code, so a client or platform can check the rights themselves.
Free and Creator are for personal projects only.
What is different
CapCut's AI music generator works from a text description, and its page lists no way to set the track length. Sonilo watches the uploaded cut, follows its pacing and scene changes, and ends on the last frame. Your prompt steers the mood; the video sets the timing.
Ask for the music and the sounds in the same place: rain, footsteps, a window closing, a whoosh on a transition. Sonilo keeps the dialogue in your clip audible, so a talking UGC video still sounds like you.
Add a voiceover to a clip with no speech, or dub a talking video into another language. That covers the music, effects, and speech layers of a video without leaving Sonilo.
Why creators switch the sound
CapCut is where many creators cut, caption, and export every video. The sound is often the slow part: searching the library for a track that matches, trimming it to length, then checking whether the license covers the platform you post to. Sonilo starts from the video itself, so the music already fits the cut when it comes back.
One creator we interviewed described the loop: in CapCut she kept trying different tracks to match a clip, and the closest match was still someone else's song. In Sonilo she uploads the clip, says "calm and cinematic" or "rain and a window closing", and gets music plus sound effects for that clip.
CapCut is an editor first. Its music library, sound effects, and AI audio tools exist so you can finish a video without leaving the app, and for a TikTok-only creator that is often enough.
Sonilo fits after the edit. Many creators keep CapCut for the cut and use Sonilo for the sound, then drop the audio back on the CapCut timeline.
