A designed boom signals scale without needing to imitate an explosion. Its parts may include a soft onset, a low swell, a midrange knock, and a decaying room or tonal tail. The useful combination depends on the image. A logo reveal may need a compact mark; a wide environment reveal can support a slower expansion.

Do not judge the cue only at high volume. Turn playback down until the sub is barely present. If the editorial beat disappears, a version with more midrange information may translate better.

Separate the Sub Hit From the Audible Midrange Impact
The deepest part supplies physical weight on systems that can reproduce it. The midrange gives the hit an outline on laptops and phones. When both parts arrive together, the boom can feel focused. If the midrange is late or too sharp, it may sound like a second unrelated impact.
Use an A/B test across two playback conditions. First listen on headphones or full-range speakers and note the low extension. Then use a phone speaker at a comfortable level. Keep the candidate that retains its timing and identity without forcing the mix louder.
A restrained reveal example
A product rotates into view while a voice names the feature. The cue needs enough midrange to mark the final angle, but the sub should not pull attention away from the line. A short tail lets the product sound deliberate without turning the shot into a trailer imitation.

Keep the Tail Short Enough for Fast Title Sequences
Fast typography often creates several possible hit points. One boom across every word builds mud quickly. Choose the main information beat and reserve the largest cue for it. Smaller visual changes can rely on the music, a lighter transition sound, or silence.
Mark four moments: the first readable frame, the point of maximum scale, the next cut, and the next spoken word. The tail should have an editorial destination before one of those later events. If it continues through all of them, it is probably doing too much.
When the next shot shares the same dramatic space, a controlled bridge can work. When the next scene changes tone, end the boom before the cut so the new soundscape starts cleanly.

Generate Dark, Clean, Trailer, and Minimal Boom Variations
"Dark" can mean more low emphasis and a softer top. "Trailer" may imply a firmer midrange impact and longer dramatic shape. "Minimal" asks for fewer audible layers and a shorter release. Treat these as starting directions, then specify the exact visual job to avoid a vague style request.
