Background music for videos

60 quiet instrumentals for under a voice. Quiet, sparse instrumentals that sit under a voice — for tutorials, podcasts, vlogs and explainers. Listen free. MP3 & WAV downloads come with Pro and Premium.

Background music has one job: to fill the silence without competing with whoever is talking. The tracks on this page are picked for that. They are low-energy and calm instrumentals with no vocals, ordered for use under a voice — the quietest and sparsest first, such as solo piano, a single guitar or soft pads, then fuller arrangements that still leave room for speech.

Every track is free to listen to, with no account. MP3 and WAV downloads come with Pro and Premium and cover monetized YouTube videos, ads and client work, with no credit needed. Set the music 12 to 18 dB below the voice; the tips under the list explain how.

Using background music under a voice

Keep it under the voice

Background music should sit 12–18 dB below speech. Sparse arrangements — solo piano, pads, a single guitar — stay out of the way of a voice better than busy ones at the same volume.

Duck, then let it breathe

Most editors can lower music automatically while someone speaks (ducking). Let it rise a few dB in pauses and over b-roll, then settle back under the next line.

Loop a steady section

A long tutorial outlasts most tracks. Loop a section with no build, and cross-fade the join over a bar so the seam does not show.

Check it on a phone

Listen once on phone speakers before you publish: a bed that sits well on headphones can vanish, or mask words, on a small speaker.
