Help center · Music and sound effects
Can I keep the original audio or voice in my video with Sonilo?
Short answer
Yes, Sonilo makes music and sound effects from the picture and keeps your video's original audio as its own track, with its own volume, so you can keep it, mute it or mix it under the new sound. Turn on Preserve speech to keep the dialogue and narration under the new music, then choose Voice first, Balanced or Music first to set how far the music steps back while someone talks.
Preserve speech
In Studio, the Preserve speech switch keeps dialogue and narration while replacing the music (or the background, when you generate sound effects). It is off by default. On the quick create form the same option is called Keep speech and vocals: it removes the existing music while keeping voices.
A clip that has speech but no music keeps its original sound under the new music even with Preserve speech off.
Voice and music
With Preserve speech on, choose how the two share the mix:
- Voice first: music stays low the whole way through, so every word is clear.
- Balanced (the default): music dips while someone talks and comes back up in between.
- Music first: music keeps its level under the voice.
This sets the mix, not the music itself, so you can change it after the result is ready.
Adjusting it afterwards
Each track (your original audio, the music, the sound effects) has its own volume, and Auto Duck lowers the music automatically while someone is speaking. The track slider moves a track up to 12 dB either way.
Sound effects from your video
Sonilo keeps your video's original sound when it makes sound effects, so you can keep it, mute it or mix the two. In Studio, the Original track and the Sound effects track each have a volume slider and a Mute button, and the exported video follows the levels you set. The Original track starts muted unless it carries speech, so turn it up to hear your own sound under the effects.
Video translation
Sonilo keeps the original background music and sound effects when it translates a video and replaces only the speech, in the speaker's own voice. See translating a video.
Removing music that is already there
To strip the existing music from a video and keep only the voice, use remove music, keep voice.
