Royalty-Free Airplane & Rocket Sound Effects

100k+ free sound effects, growing every day. Aircraft sound effects covering jets, propeller planes, helicopters, drones and rockets: low fly-bys with a Doppler whine, a sonic boom, rotor whirs, quadcopter buzz, rocket ignitions and blast-offs, and spaceship thrusters powering down. Cabin details are here too, from overhead bin latches to helicopter doors. Use the pass-bys for establishing shots and travel montages, the launches for space and sci-fi scenes, and the drone buzz for tech reviews and aerial footage. Add a whoosh on the cut, or pair a launch with an explosion. Free MP3 & WAV for commercial use. No account or credit needed.

How to use airplane and rocket sound effects in a video

Center the Doppler on the closest frame

A fly by is loudest, and drops in pitch, where the aircraft passes nearest the camera. Line that pitch drop up with the frame where the plane crosses the middle of the shot, and let the approach begin before it enters frame, so the sound arrives first the way it does outdoors.

Let a launch build from ignition

Start the ignition hiss on the frame the flame appears, then let the roar grow as the rocket climbs and fade it as it shrinks in the sky. If music is playing, pull it down for the first moments of liftoff so the low end has room, then bring it back.

Treat rotors and drones as a bed

Quadcopter buzz and helicopter rotor rhythm are continuous, so use them like ambience under aerial footage: steady and well below the voice. Bring them up only for a takeoff, a landing or a close pass, and mark the start and end of a flight with the gimbal startup whir or the rotor winding down.

Airplane and rocket sound effects: questions

What is the difference between a jet and a propeller plane fly by?

A jet passes with a high whistling whine and a rush of air, while a propeller plane has a throbbing engine note with the beat of the blades in it. Match the aircraft in your footage, because a jet on a small prop plane is noticed at once. The vintage propeller flyover suits archive footage and travel montages.

How do I make a rocket launch feel bigger?

Stack the ignition and liftoff with a sustained thruster blast, then add the distant rocket roar as the camera cuts wide. Stage and booster separation clips work for shots of the rocket high in flight. For a launch that goes wrong, follow it with a blast from explosions.

Which sounds fit a spaceship scene?

Use the spaceship engine idling hum or the hovering alien craft hum as a steady bed while the ship is on screen, and the landing thrusters powering down when it touches down. The short pressurized gas purges and hisses work as docking clamps and hatch releases, and the jetpack fly by suits a character crossing the frame.

License

Every sound effect in this library is free to download and use in personal and commercial projects: videos, ads (including paid ad campaigns), client work, podcasts, apps and games. No account, no credit, no royalties and no revenue cap. Sonilo does not register library sound effects with YouTube Content ID. Sound effects FAQ

Can I use these downloads in commercial projects?

Yes. Every file is free to download and use in personal and commercial projects — monetized videos, ads (including paid ad campaigns), client work, apps, websites and games — under the library license on this page, with no credit needed. Sonilo does not register library sound effects with YouTube Content ID. A free download doesn’t include a license certificate; on Pro and above you can get one for any file here. Audio you generate in your account follows your plan’s terms instead.

Do I need an account to preview or download a sound?

You can listen and download MP3 or WAV files directly from this library without signing in. Creating new audio with the AI generator requires a Sonilo account.

What is the difference between MP3 and WAV?

MP3 is a compressed file that is convenient for quick previews and smaller projects. WAV is uncompressed and useful when you will edit, layer or process the sound. Both versions of a library sound use the same library license.

What if I cannot find the sound I need?

Describe the sound in the search box. If there are no matches, choose the AI generation option to bring that description into Sonilo’s sound effects generator. New accounts receive free credits; generation uses credits, and available exports and usage rights depend on your plan.

How is this different from a traditional sound library?

You can start with a ready-to-download sound or use your description to create a new one in the same product. Sonilo also offers video-to-sound-effects workflows, so you can move from finding a sound to making audio for a particular scene.

Can I share or embed a sound?

Each sound has a permanent detail-page link. Use Share to copy that link, or Embed to copy an HTML audio player with a link back to the sound. Your website editor must allow HTML audio; pasting a URL alone does not automatically embed it.

Can I make sound effects for an uploaded video or through an API?

Sonilo supports video-driven sound effects as well as text descriptions. Open the sound effects product page for the available workflows, or use the developer documentation for API integration. Account generation and API usage follow their own credit and licensing terms.
