Royalty-Free Click & Switch Sound Effects

100k+ free sound effects, growing every day. Click and switch sound effects: light switches, toggles and circuit breakers, mechanical keyboard thocks, typewriter keys and carriage bells, rotary phone dials, a camera shutter and focus, seatbelt clicks, levers, ratchets, turnstiles, bicycle gears and clockwork mechanisms turning. Use them for button presses, typing scenes, retro tech, locks and gadget reveals, and as crisp ticks on a transition. For digital interface clicks, see UI & notification sounds; for larger mechanisms, try machines. Free MP3 & WAV for commercial use. No account or credit needed.

How to use click and switch sound effects in a video

Click on the contact frame

A switch, seatbelt or lock has no build up: the click is the moment the parts meet. Put it on the frame the press bottoms out or the buckle seats, not when the hand starts moving. On a sound this short, even a frame or two late is noticeable.

Match typing to the hands

The typing clips run from soft laptop keys to clacky mechanical keyboards, typewriters with carriage bells and a retro terminal. Pick by the keyboard in shot, and when the hands are visible, cut the typing so its pauses match theirs. End a line with the enter slam or the carriage bell when the edit needs a beat.

Use a click as a transition tick

A camera shutter, a toggle or a light switch makes a crisp mark on a cut, a title or a photo reveal. Keep it short and dry, sit it under the voice, and use the same click for the same kind of transition throughout, so the edit develops a rhythm the viewer can follow.

Click and switch sound effects: questions

What is the difference between mechanical clicks and UI clicks?

These are physical things: switches, keys, latches, ratchets and gears, with the metal and plastic texture that comes with them. UI and notification sounds are digital clicks designed for apps and screens. Use this page when a hand presses something on screen, and UI sounds for screen recordings and animated interfaces.

Which typing sound fits a hacker or thriller scene?

Fast mechanical keyboard typing or the furious typing bursts suit a race against time, and typing a line then slamming enter gives a clean end point. For an older setting, the retro computer terminal or the humming electric typewriter dates the scene. Use different sections of a clip across shots so the rhythm does not obviously repeat.

Where are bigger mechanisms and gears?

Clockwork gears, a bicycle freewheel, a turnstile, a slot machine lever, a parking barrier arm and an airlock cycle are all here, next to the small clicks. For heavier industrial equipment that runs rather than clicks, try machines.

License

Every sound effect in this library is free to download and use in personal and commercial projects: videos, ads (including paid ad campaigns), client work, podcasts, apps and games. No account, no credit, no royalties and no revenue cap. Sonilo does not register library sound effects with YouTube Content ID. A free download doesn’t come with a license certificate; on Pro and above you can get one for any sound effect here. Use the files inside your own projects, including templates and other products you sell, where the audio is part of a larger work. You may not sell, share or give away the files on their own, bundle them into sound, sample or music packs, or upload them to other stock or library sites.

Sound effects FAQ

Can I use these downloads in commercial projects?

Yes. Every file is free to download and use in personal and commercial projects — monetized videos, ads (including paid ad campaigns), client work, apps, websites and games — under the library license on this page, with no credit needed. Sonilo does not register library sound effects with YouTube Content ID. A free download doesn’t include a license certificate; on Pro and above you can get one for any file here. Audio you generate in your account follows your plan’s terms instead.

Do I need an account to preview or download a sound?

You can listen and download MP3 or WAV files directly from this library without signing in. Creating new audio with the AI generator requires a Sonilo account.

What is the difference between MP3 and WAV?

MP3 is a compressed file that is convenient for quick previews and smaller projects. WAV is uncompressed and useful when you will edit, layer or process the sound. Both versions of a library sound use the same library license.

What if I cannot find the sound I need?

Describe the sound in the search box. If there are no matches, choose the AI generation option to bring that description into Sonilo’s sound effects generator. New accounts receive free credits; generation uses credits, and available exports and usage rights depend on your plan.

How is this different from a traditional sound library?

You can start with a ready-to-download sound or use your description to create a new one in the same product. Sonilo also offers video-to-sound-effects workflows, so you can move from finding a sound to making audio for a particular scene.

Can I share or embed a sound?

Each sound has a permanent detail-page link. Use Share to copy that link, or Embed to copy an HTML audio player with a link back to the sound. Your website editor must allow HTML audio; pasting a URL alone does not automatically embed it.

Can I make sound effects for an uploaded video or through an API?

Sonilo supports video-driven sound effects as well as text descriptions. Open the sound effects product page for the available workflows, or use the developer documentation for API integration. Account generation and API usage follow their own credit and licensing terms.
