Royalty-Free Clock Sound Effects

100k+ free sound effects, growing every day. Clock sound effects: cuckoo clocks calling the hour, clock-tower and church-clock chimes, a mechanical alarm clock ringing, a wind-up clock being wound, kitchen timers, a steady metronome, a punch clock and a stopwatch click. Use ticking to build suspense, a chime to mark a time jump, or an alarm to open a morning-routine video. Several strikes are counted (two, four, five), so you can match the hour on screen. For bells without a clock, see bells; for electronic alarm beeps, try alarms. Free MP3 & WAV for commercial use. No account or credit needed.

How to use clock sound effects in a video

Count the strikes

Several chimes here are counted: a cuckoo striking four or five times, a clock tower chiming twice, a house clock striking two. Match the count to the hour on screen, or trim strikes off the end for a smaller number. Make the cut after a ring has died down, between strikes, so the edit is not heard.

Let ticking carry the tension

A steady tick works like a slow drumbeat under a scene. Use the metronome or the kitchen timer for a countdown, keep it just above the music so it is felt in every quiet moment, and stop it dead on the reveal. The silence where the ticking was often lands harder than any hit.

Put the click under the thumb

Small mechanical sounds sell close shots: the watch crown pull, the stopwatch start click, the rapid winding of a clock, the punch clock clunk. Sync them to the frame the thumb presses or the card goes in, and keep them dry and close. They are short enough to stack on a fast montage of someone racing the clock.

Clock sound effects: questions

Which clock sound marks a time jump?

A single resonant bell strike or the church clock quarter chime says time has passed without spelling it out. Start it on the last frame of the old scene and let the ring carry over the cut into the new one. A cuckoo call does the same job with a lighter, more comic feel.

What alarm clock sound suits a morning routine video?

The mechanical alarm clock bell and the windup alarm clock ringing both have the classic bell rattle. Open the video on the ring, cut it off the moment a hand hits the clock, and bring the music in right after. For a phone or digital beeping alarm, look in alarms instead.

Where are bells without a clock?

Church bells, school bells and other bells on their own are in the bells category. This page keeps the timekeeping sounds: clock towers and house clocks striking, cuckoo clocks, alarm clocks, a kitchen timer, a metronome, a punch clock, a stopwatch and a watch crown.

Sound effects FAQ

Can I use these downloads in commercial projects?

Yes. Every file is free to download and use in personal and commercial projects — monetized videos, ads (including paid ad campaigns), client work, apps, websites and games — under the library license on this page, with no credit needed. Sonilo does not register library sound effects with YouTube Content ID. A free download doesn’t include a license certificate; on Pro and above you can get one for any file here. Audio you generate in your account follows your plan’s terms instead.

Do I need an account to preview or download a sound?

You can listen and download MP3 or WAV files directly from this library without signing in. Creating new audio with the AI generator requires a Sonilo account.

What is the difference between MP3 and WAV?

MP3 is a compressed file that is convenient for quick previews and smaller projects. WAV is uncompressed and useful when you will edit, layer or process the sound. Both versions of a library sound use the same library license.

What if I cannot find the sound I need?

Describe the sound in the search box. If there are no matches, choose the AI generation option to bring that description into Sonilo’s sound effects generator. New accounts receive free credits; generation uses credits, and available exports and usage rights depend on your plan.

How is this different from a traditional sound library?

You can start with a ready-to-download sound or use your description to create a new one in the same product. Sonilo also offers video-to-sound-effects workflows, so you can move from finding a sound to making audio for a particular scene.

Can I share or embed a sound?

Each sound has a permanent detail-page link. Use Share to copy that link, or Embed to copy an HTML audio player with a link back to the sound. Your website editor must allow HTML audio; pasting a URL alone does not automatically embed it.

Can I make sound effects for an uploaded video or through an API?

Sonilo supports video-driven sound effects as well as text descriptions. Open the sound effects product page for the available workflows, or use the developer documentation for API integration. Account generation and API usage follow their own credit and licensing terms.
