Royalty-Free Animal Sound Effects

100k+ free sound effects, growing every day. Animal sound effects from farms, homes and the wild: dogs barking and whimpering, cats meowing, horses neighing and galloping, pigs, cows and donkeys, lions and elephants roaring, wolf packs howling, seals, bats, rattlesnakes and buzzing insects. Use them in kids' content, nature and pet videos, games, comedy cuts and podcasts that need a quick punchline. Each call is a separate clip, so you can drop in a single bark or a full howl. Birds have their own bird sounds page, and fantasy beasts live under creatures. Free MP3 & WAV for commercial use. No account or credit needed.

How to use animal sound effects in a video

Cut each call to the mouth

On camera, a bark or a meow has to match the animal's mouth and body. Line up the start of each call with the frame the jaw opens or the chest pushes, and cut separate calls for separate movements rather than laying one long clip under several. A bark that is a few frames late looks dubbed.

Keep close and distant calls apart

A dog in the same room should sound dry and close, while the distant lone wolf howl or the lions answering across the savanna already carry space. Rather than adding reverb to a close clip to fake distance, pick a clip recorded at the right distance, then lower it and soften the highs if it still feels too near.

Use the small sounds for pets

Pet videos live on the small details as much as the calls: panting, sniffing the floor, lapping water from a bowl, crunching kibble, shaking off with a collar jingle, paws scampering. Lay these quietly under the action to make a silent clip feel recorded, and save the loud bark or meow for the beat you want a reaction to.

Animal sound effects: questions

Which animal sounds work as a comedy punchline?

Short calls with character hit hardest: a donkey bray, the comedic goat bleat, a pig squeal, an old cat's raspy meow. Put them on the frame right after the line or the reaction, leave a beat of silence before them, and let them sit a little louder than the voice for that one moment.

Are there wild animals and insects here too?

Yes. Lions, tigers, bears, elephants, wolves, hyenas, seals, dolphins, a whale song, bats, frogs and snakes sit alongside the farm and pet sounds, plus bees, flies, mosquitoes and crickets. A few, such as the giant insect flyby and the monstrous roar, are processed enough to use for a creature.

Where are bird sounds?

Birds have their own bird sounds page, and fantasy beasts such as dragons and zombies are under creatures. This page covers mammals, reptiles, amphibians and insects, from a cat purring up close to a wolf pack howling together.

License

Every sound effect in this library is free to download and use in personal and commercial projects: videos, ads (including paid ad campaigns), client work, podcasts, apps and games. Sound effects FAQ

Can I use these downloads in commercial projects?

Yes. Every file is free to download and use in personal and commercial projects — monetized videos, ads (including paid ad campaigns), client work, apps, websites and games — under the library license on this page, with no credit needed. Sonilo does not register library sound effects with YouTube Content ID. A free download doesn’t include a license certificate; on Pro and above you can get one for any file here. Audio you generate in your account follows your plan’s terms instead.

Do I need an account to preview or download a sound?

You can listen and download MP3 or WAV files directly from this library without signing in. Creating new audio with the AI generator requires a Sonilo account.

What is the difference between MP3 and WAV?

MP3 is a compressed file that is convenient for quick previews and smaller projects. WAV is uncompressed and useful when you will edit, layer or process the sound. Both versions of a library sound use the same library license.

What if I cannot find the sound I need?

Describe the sound in the search box. If there are no matches, choose the AI generation option to bring that description into Sonilo’s sound effects generator. New accounts receive free credits; generation uses credits, and available exports and usage rights depend on your plan.

How is this different from a traditional sound library?

You can start with a ready-to-download sound or use your description to create a new one in the same product. Sonilo also offers video-to-sound-effects workflows, so you can move from finding a sound to making audio for a particular scene.

Can I share or embed a sound?

Each sound has a permanent detail-page link. Use Share to copy that link, or Embed to copy an HTML audio player with a link back to the sound. Your website editor must allow HTML audio; pasting a URL alone does not automatically embed it.

Can I make sound effects for an uploaded video or through an API?

Sonilo supports video-driven sound effects as well as text descriptions. Open the sound effects product page for the available workflows, or use the developer documentation for API integration. Account generation and API usage follow their own credit and licensing terms.
